Court ordered therapy, including family therapy and trauma-informed therapy, can be essential for individuals seeking support. Programs such as anger management and parenting classes are often included as part of these therapeutic processes.

SCV Counseling Marriage and Family Therapy Center, Inc. provides comprehensive mental health supportive services, family reunification, and reentry-focused care for formerly incarcerated individuals and their family members throughout Los Angeles County.
We recognize that returning home after incarceration is more than a physical transition. Reentry can require individuals and families to rebuild trust, redefine family roles, repair relationships, address trauma, strengthen communication, reconnect with children, and adjust to significant emotional, social, and economic changes.
Our approach recognizes the family as an important part of successful reintegration. Through trauma-informed individual and family counseling, family reunification services, emotional regulation and anger management support, parenting and co-parenting education, life-skills development, and supportive case coordination, SCV Counseling helps individuals and families navigate the challenges associated with returning home and rebuilding their lives.
Our goal extends beyond successful reentry. We work to strengthen the protective factors that support long-term stability, including healthy relationships, emotional wellness, family connection, personal accountability, positive coping skills, community support, and a renewed sense of purpose.
By addressing the underlying behavioral health and relational challenges that can make reintegration difficult, our programs are designed to support successful reentry, strengthen families, reduce factors associated with recidivism, and help individuals establish stable and meaningful lives within their communities.
Incarceration affects more than the individual—it can affect spouses, partners, children, parents, caregivers, and entire family systems.
Separation may create disrupted attachment, loss of trust, communication difficulties, changes in parenting roles, unresolved anger, and uncertainty about how a family moves forward after reunification.
SCV Counseling provides a structured and compassionate environment where formerly incarcerated individuals and their families can work through these challenges together.
Family reunification services focus on rebuilding communication and trust, establishing healthy boundaries, strengthening parenting and co-parenting relationships, resolving conflict without escalation, processing the emotional impact of separation and incarceration, and developing realistic expectations for reunification.
We believe successful reentry is stronger when individuals do not have to rebuild their lives alone. Strengthening the family and support system surrounding the returning individual can create a stronger foundation for stability, accountability, connection, and long-term community reintegration.
Reducing recidivism requires more than focusing on what an individual should not do again. It also requires helping people build something meaningful to move toward.
SCV Counseling's reentry services focus on helping participants develop healthier relationships, stronger coping and emotional regulation skills, increased personal responsibility, improved family communication, and positive connections to their communities.
For families with children and adolescents, this work can also have an intergenerational impact. Supporting healthy reunification, strengthening parent-child relationships, and addressing the effects of incarceration within the family can help create greater stability for the next generation.
Our philosophy is centered on restoration: restoring relationships where appropriate, restoring personal responsibility, restoring connection, and creating opportunities for individuals and families to move forward with greater stability and hope.
SCV Counseling is proud to announce that we have been awarded a grant through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to provide Victim Impact Program services at California State Prison, Los Angeles County in Lancaster.
This opportunity expands SCV Counseling's commitment to rehabilitation, accountability, restorative learning, and safer communities by bringing structured Victim Impact programming directly to incarcerated participants.
The Victim Impact Program provides participants with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how harmful actions can affect victims, families, and communities.
The program moves beyond simply examining an offense. Participants are encouraged to explore the broader and often lasting impact that harmful behavior can have on another person's emotional well-being, relationships, sense of safety, family system, and community.
Through structured education, facilitated discussion, reflective exercises, and skill-building activities, participants explore concepts such as accountability, empathy, decision-making, the difference between intent and impact, secondary and family impacts of harm, emotional regulation, and behavioral change.
The program maintains a victim-centered approach. Participants are encouraged to understand impact and develop accountability without placing responsibility on victims to forgive, reconcile, or participate in an individual's rehabilitation.
The ultimate goal is meaningful behavioral change—not simply completion of a curriculum.
SCV Counseling believes accountability and rehabilitation are interconnected.
Meaningful accountability requires an individual to recognize the impact of harmful behavior, understand the decisions and patterns that contributed to it, develop healthier responses, and demonstrate change through future actions.
Victim Impact programming creates opportunities for participants to move from simply recognizing consequences to understanding human impact.
This process can strengthen empathy, personal responsibility, emotional awareness, decision-making, and commitment to positive behavioral change—skills that are important both during incarceration and in preparation for eventual community reintegration.
SCV Counseling's work reflects a broader commitment to addressing the full continuum of rehabilitation and reentry.
Inside the correctional setting, our Victim Impact Program emphasizes awareness, accountability, empathy, and behavioral change.
Within the community, our mental health, reentry, and family reunification services help individuals and families address trauma, rebuild relationships, strengthen emotional wellness, navigate family transitions, and establish healthier foundations for successful reintegration.
Together, these services reflect our belief that lasting community safety is strengthened when individuals have opportunities to understand harm, take responsibility, develop healthier behaviors, reconnect with positive support systems, and build meaningful lives after incarceration.
SCV Counseling is honored to expand our work through our partnership with CDCR while continuing to serve formerly incarcerated individuals and their families in the community.
Whether we are helping an incarcerated participant understand the impact of harmful behavior, supporting a parent returning home, helping partners rebuild trust, reconnecting families after prolonged separation, or assisting individuals in developing healthier coping and communication skills, our mission remains consistent:
To strengthen individuals and families through healing, accountability, connection, and opportunity—and to contribute to safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.
